The current Champ Car season ends in early December and the team have confirmed that Bourdais will join up with them then to conduct pre-season winter testing ahead of the new season and the first race in March.
"It has been a long time coming, but here we are," said Bourdais, who is currently racing for the Newman-Haas-Lanigan team in North America.
"I would like to thank everyone at Red Bull for believing in me and giving me this long-awaited opportunity to race in formula one."
Too bad Liuzzi isn't around to get spanked by Sebass.
